Michael Tyrel Arnold, a confessed killer, testified in Calgary court that the ambush resulting in the death of Nakita Baron and the wounding of her husband, Talal Fouani, was a failed carjacking. Arnold claimed he had no intent to kill and was under the influence of drugs at the time. Crown prosecutors, however, argue the shootings were a planned and intentional ambush. Arnold faces a life sentence without parole for first-degree murder.
