Indigenous agency's staff face big income tax bills over mix

Potentially hundreds of current and former employees of a London Indigenous organization face up to 10 years of income tax bills after learning they don't qualify for a federal tax exemption.

Staff at Atlohsa Family Healing Services, an Indigenous organization in London, Ontario, face significant income tax bills (up to 10 years' worth) after learning they do not qualify for a federal tax exemption they believed applied to them. Atlohsa is working to support affected employees and has appealed to the CRA for relief after discovering the error. The CRA states that income must be earned on a reserve to be tax-exempt under the Indian Act.
