The Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF/FCE) and the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ) denounce the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada's (CMEC) decision to not send a Canadian delegation to the International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP) 2025, citing Canada's current teacher retention and recruitment crisis. They highlight the ISTP's importance as a forum for addressing priorities in the teaching profession and are concerned about the negative perception of Canada's absence. While the United States will also not participate, the CTF/FCE president suggests Canada should distinguish itself by engaging in international discussions. The CSQ president emphasizes the need for education to be part of the discussion at the upcoming G7 Summit in Canada.
