Israeli forces kill 5 Palestinians in latest Gaza ceasefire violation
On March 15, 2025, Israeli forces killed five Palestinians in Gaza, violating a ceasefire brokered by the US, Qatar, and Egypt that began on January 19. Four Palestinians collecting firewood were killed in an Israeli drone strike in the Zeitoun neighborhood, and a fisherman was killed by Israeli gunboat fire off the coast of Gaza City. The ceasefire's initial 42-day phase, involving hostage and prisoner exchanges, has ended, and disagreements persist over subsequent phases. Israel had previously cut off electricity and blocked aid to Gaza. A UN investigation concluded that Israel committed "genocidal acts" and employed sexual violence as a war strategy against Palestinians in Gaza.
