It's election day for the IOC choosing a new Olympics leader in a hard

A new president of the IOC will be elected Thursday as just the 10th leader in its 131-year history after one of the most open Olympic elections in decades

On March 20, 2025, the IOC will elect its new president from seven candidates, including Juan Antonio Samaranch, Sebastian Coe, and Kirsty Coventry. The winner secures an eight-year term and will oversee the 2028 Los Angeles Games and the selection of the 2036 host. Coventry could be the first woman and African to lead the IOC. Outgoing President Thomas Bach, praised and named honorary president for life, leaves the IOC financially sound.
