JFK Library closes suddenly amid federal layoffs, will reportedly reopen Wednesday

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Dorcester closed suddenly on Tuesday due to federal layoffs orchestrated by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The institution, administered by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), will reopen on Wednesday. The closure affected the museum, which is a popular destination, especially during school vacation weeks. The JFK Library Foundation, a nonprofit supporting the library, expressed devastation over the layoffs and referred inquiries to NARA. The foundation stated that the sudden dismissal of federal employees forced the closure. NARA confirmed the reopening, stating they look forward to welcoming guests. Probationary employees were reportedly laid off, and some, including Kennedy’s grandson Jack Schlossberg, have commented on social media about the situation.
