Barton was branded a liar by the judge, but says he will appeal his assault conviction
Joey Barton received a suspended 12-week prison sentence for assaulting his wife, Georgia Barton, at their London home in June 2021, leaving her with a head injury. Despite Mrs. Barton initially reporting the assault in a 999 call and to police, she later retracted the allegation and defended her husband in court. The judge found Barton guilty, rejecting both his and his wife's accounts, and called them liars. Barton plans to appeal the conviction.
