Judge to lead commission to redraw boundaries prior to next Alberta election

Changes haven’t always been the order of the day for electoral boundary commissions, with the number of seats unchanged at 83 between 1986 and 2009, even though the provincial population had gone up 40 per cent.

Justice Dallas K. Miller will chair Alberta's 2025 Electoral Boundaries Commission, tasked with redrawing electoral boundaries to accommodate population growth and demographic shifts. Bill 31 introduces changes, including removing the mandatory consideration of municipal boundaries. The commission will submit an interim report in seven months and a final report in twelve months. The legislature is expected to grow by at least two MLA seats. The New Democrats will appoint members and advocate for a fair map.
