The Alberta Law Enforcement Review Board (LERB) declined to overturn the demotion while also rejecting the police chief's attempt to have him fired. Kelly faced disciplinary action for the initial error and for blaming others. He was found guilty of multiple counts, including deceit. The LERB's review focused on the legal "reasonableness" of the decisions.
