LILLEY: Mark Carney and the truth don’t seem to know each other
Mark Carney, the front-runner for the Liberal leadership and potential next prime minister of Canada, is facing criticism over his credibility and truthfulness. Accusations include him taking credit for achievements unrelated to his role, such as balancing the budget and managing Canada’s economy during the 2008 financial crisis. Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper criticized Carney for overstating his involvement in the financial crisis response, which Harper argued was led by Jim Flaherty. Additionally, Carney claimed familiarity with U.S. President Donald Trump during his first term, despite being the Governor of the Bank of England at the time. Carney also falsely claimed that Canada supplies most of the United States' semiconductors. These issues have made Carney a target of online mockery.
