List of convicted sex offenders to be published publicly like tax offenders list

Minister for Justice will also move to remove guardianship rights from parent who kills child’s other parent

The Irish government plans to publish a list of convicted sex offenders publicly, similar to how tax offenders are listed. Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan announced the establishment of a domestic violence register for those convicted of rape or serious sexual assault, aiming to increase transparency. The proposal also includes implementing Valerie’s Law, ending the use of character references in gender-based violence cases, and introducing Jennie’s Law to disclose domestic violence convictions. Additionally, there is a call for compulsory training for judges on sexual and gender-based violence. The move aims to address the lack of public awareness about such convictions, as highlighted by the minister.
