London Philharmonia violinist has 'priceless' instrument stolen from Canonbury pub by thief

David López Ibáñez, who plays in London’s prestigious Philharmonia Orchestra, said they were ‘devastated’ by theft of 300-year-old violin

Violinist David López Ibáñez of the London Philharmonia Orchestra had his 300-year-old, Lorenzo Carcassi-made violin stolen from the Marquess Tavern in Canonbury. The theft, occurring during a dinner with a friend, also included three bows. The violin, on loan to Ibáñez, holds sentimental and irreplaceable value, featuring a heart-shaped scroll. Ibáñez, expressing deep distress, appeals for assistance to recover the instrument, which was in a black Riboni Unoeotto case. The Philharmonia, one of London's leading orchestras, underscores the significance of this loss.
