The Ontario government, led by Doug Ford, has imposed a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to three U.S. states, estimated to add $10 per megawatt-hour. The Independent Electricity System Operator will collect the revenue. Ford threatened to increase the surcharge or cut exports entirely if U.S. tariffs escalate and encouraged other provinces to consider similar measures. Quebec Premier François Legault has ruled out a similar surcharge for the time being.
