Lufthansa is upgrading its long-haul fleet with a €2.5 billion Allegris redesign, introducing 14 seat categories, including seven in business class alone. The upgraded seats, announced in 2017, aim to compete with luxury offerings from airlines like Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific. The numerous seat variations have caused supply-chain issues and delays in the rollout, with 10% of the fleet remaining unchanged until 2028. The new business class features seats with doors, personal wardrobes, and heating/cooling systems, with various upcharges for specific seat models.
