A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck near Townsville, North Queensland, Australia, around 9:30 pm local time, affecting a tourist hotspot near the Great Barrier Reef. Tourists were forced to evacuate from their hotels. The earthquake caused power outages affecting over 4,000 people in suburbs including Hyde Park, Pimlico, Mysterton, and Rosslea. Tremors were felt as far as Cairns and Charters Towers. British CEO Brenn Clinton shared on X that his daughter, staying at a hotel, was evacuated during her first earthquake experience.
