Brian McHugh had pleaded not guilty to murder of mother-of-two in Ballymun in 2022
Man found guilty of murdering Lisa Thompson in her Dublin home. Brian McHugh, 40, was convicted of strangling and stabbing Lisa Thompson, 52, with a blind cord on May 9, 2022. Evidence included McHugh’s DNA on the cord, CCTV footage near her home, and DNA matching Thompson on jewelry found in his house. McHugh’s defense that Thompson was a “woman of secrets” was rejected. Thompson was involved in dealing prescription drugs, and McHugh claimed a history of visiting her home. The jury took over three hours to reach a unanimous guilty verdict. McHugh will face a mandatory life sentence on March 10. The Thompson family will make a victim impact statement at the sentencing.
