Manitoba premier says landfill search for two women’s remains under budget

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew says the search of a landfill for two murdered First Nations women is under budget, as work continues on identifying a set of remains found last month.

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew reports the landfill search for the remains of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran is currently under budget, despite the recent discovery of two sets of remains. The province and federal government each committed $20 million to the search, which began in early December. The search area is 20,000 cubic metres of waste in an area the size of four football fields. The Premier plans to consult with the families regarding next steps after the remains are identified. Jeremy Skibicki was convicted of murdering Harris, Myran, and two other Indigenous women.
