March night sky: how and when to see the most anticipated celestial events this month

Mark your calendars, there are plenty of stunning astronomical events to see in March

March 2025 offers several celestial events, including a rare partial lunar eclipse ("Blood Moon") on March 14, peaking at 6:55 AM UK time, and a partial solar eclipse on March 29, blocking 30-40% of the Sun's rays. The planetary parade featuring Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter is visible early in the month. Saturn's rings will be nearly invisible on March 23. Galaxy season begins early in March, with the Andromeda Galaxy prominent. The Manchester Heaton Park Astronomy Group will host a free solar eclipse viewing event.
