Mark Carney to kick off election campaign today and will run for seat in Ottawa riding

The election campaign comes while Canada finds itself embroiled in a historic trade war with the United States

Liberal Leader Mark Carney launched his campaign, promising a one percent cut to the lowest income tax bracket, which he estimates will save the average two-income family $825. He criticized Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, calling him a "Canadian Trump," while Poilievre distanced himself from the U.S. administration. Carney, seeking a "strong, positive mandate," dissolved Parliament amid a historic trade war with the United States, seeking a vote of confidence from Canadians on how to handle the situation. He also promised to reduce government spending and maintain current immigration targets until housing supply increases. Carney will be running in the Ottawa area riding of Nepean.
