Measles cases linked to Texas outbreak hit 309, surpassing nationwide total in 2024

The number of measles cases associated with an outbreak in western Texas has grown to 309, according to new data released Friday.



A measles outbreak in Texas has reached 309 cases, exceeding the 2024 nationwide total of 285. Almost all cases are in unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccination status, with 40 hospitalizations. Children and teenagers are most affected. There is one confirmed and one possible measles-related death. New Mexico has 38 cases, with a possible link to the Texas outbreak. The CDC has confirmed 378 measles cases in 17 states, with 95% occurring in unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccination status.
