Meta unveils plan for world's longest undersea cable project spanning 50,000km

Meta, owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has announced plans to build a 50,000km (31,000-mile) undersea cable project, named Project Waterworth, which will be the world's longest. The project aims to connect the US, India, South Africa, Brazil, and other key regions, providing "industry-leading connectivity" and supporting its artificial intelligence projects. Despite concerns about foreign cyber attacks, Meta emphasizes enhanced security measures, including burying cables deeper in high-risk areas. The cables will span five major continents and support digital infrastructure growth in connected regions.
