Midsomer Murders star John Nettles reveals why he’d never watch the show again

John Nettles, the star of Midsomer Murders, has explained that he no longer watches the show, citing his long career in police procedurals and a distaste for seeing actors portray dead bodies. In an interview with The Times, he compared watching such portrayals to building a wall, stating he doesn’t want to see others do it. He also criticized the increasing prevalence of violence against women in modern detective dramas. Nettles, who played Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby in 81 episodes from 1997 to 2011, appreciated the show’s unrealistic and extraordinary murders. After his departure, his character was replaced by Neil Dudgeon. Additionally, Nettles has given his blessing to a reboot of Bergerac, with Damien Molony taking on the title role.
