Millionaire Vivek Ramaswamy set to join the Ohio governor's race

A Republican who left the Department of Government Efficiency initiative on President Donald Trump’s first day is expected to launch his bid for Ohio governor

Millionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican biotech entrepreneur and former Trump administration official, is set to launch his bid for Ohio governor in the 2026 Republican primary. Ramaswamy, 39, is a self-made near-billionaire who previously sought the GOP presidential nomination in 2024 before backing Trump. He is expected to kick off his campaign in Cincinnati, joining a competitive field that includes Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, entrepreneur Heather Hill, and Democratic candidate Amy Acton, the former state health director. Ramaswamy, who is Hindu, has promoted conservative values and aims to buck the traditional path to the governorship, which typically involves extensive government experience. His campaign has gained endorsements from Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague and Secretary of State Frank LaRose.
