Minister criticised for saying Government ‘winning the battle’ on housing

The Central Bank has projected that the Government will miss its own housing targets for the next three years, having also underdelivered in 2024.

Enterprise Minister Peter Burke claimed the Irish government is "winning" the battle on housing, citing met targets in 2022 and 2023. This was immediately criticized by Sinn Féin TD Mairead Farrell, who said the government is "out of touch" and "losing the battle." The Central Bank projects the government will miss housing targets, and Housing Minister James Browne acknowledged challenges but maintained it was too early to discuss projections for the year. Browne also stated the government would provide additional funding to Uisce Éireann to meet connection targets.
