Moment French navy officers refuse to rescue 60 migrants from dinghy filling with water

French navy officers refused to rescue 60 distressed migrants on a cramped boat filled with water in its  territory - and instead asked Border Force for help.

French navy officers refused to rescue 60 migrants in distress on a dinghy 1.3 miles from the French coast, requesting UK Border Force assistance instead. Despite the dinghy filling with water and migrants signaling for help, French authorities shadowed the boat for hours before contacting the UK. The UK initially preferred the French to launch their own rescue, but the migrants were eventually transferred to a UK Border Force vessel. Migrant crossings have increased compared to previous years.
