Mother admits killing baby found dumped in bin bag in woodland

Joanne Sharkey admitted to the manslaughter of her newborn baby, Callum, who was found in a bin bag in Warrington woodland in 1998. Sharkey concealed her pregnancy, gave birth at home, and left the baby's body in the woodland. After a 27-year investigation, Sharkey pleaded guilty due to diminished responsibility. The baby, named Callum after the district where he was found, was laid to rest with a headstone funded by the community. The CPS noted that while the guilty plea brings some closure, it doesn't bring back Callum, whose life was unfairly cut short.
