Murphy, a 33-year-old bald eagle at the World Bird Sanctuary known for trying to hatch a rock and later becoming a foster dad to orphaned eaglets, died on March 15th from head trauma, possibly due to recent storms. He came to the sanctuary in the mid-1990s with a broken leg. His unusual behavior of incubating a rock gained him international attention, and he successfully fostered two eaglets, one of which was released back into the wild in 2023.
