Nature lovers urged to join hunt for rare miniscule moth in Scottish mountains

The Highland nymph, or Alpine coffee moth, is on the edge of extinction due to loss of mountain willow habitat, experts have said.

Nature enthusiasts are being called to aid in locating the rare Highland nymph moth, also known as the Alpine coffee moth, in Scotland's mountains. This moth is nearing extinction due to the loss of its mountain willow habitat, exacerbated by overgrazing from deer and sheep. Butterfly Conservation seeks volunteers to search for additional colonies and is working on habitat restoration, including managing grazing animals and planting willows, to preserve the moth and other species.
