New calf with historic lineage a part of Bigg’s orca ‘baby boom’

The young Bigg's, or transient, orca was first spotted in the eastern Juan de Fuca Strait in Washington state on March 20.

A new Bigg's orca calf, T046B3A, was spotted in the Salish Sea with its mother, T046B3 ("Sedna"). Sedna's grandmother, "Wake," was among the last orcas captured in North America in 1976 before being released after a lawsuit.
