NHS should give statins to ALL people over 50 to reduce heart attacks and strokes by 1,000s, scientists say

Currently the NHS provides a health check for those in this age group every five years - but this system could now be replaced.

Scientists suggest the NHS should offer statins to all people over 50 via a daily polypill (combining a statin and blood pressure-lowering drugs) to potentially reduce heart attacks and strokes by a third. This could replace the current NHS health check system and aligns with a Labour government initiative towards preventative medicine. A study suggests this population-wide approach could prevent more heart attacks and strokes compared to the current strategy.
