The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) confirmed the arrangement, facilitated through interconnected grids at Athalassa and Orounta. Both sides settle payments for the electricity exchanged, typically with the North paying the Republic. Meanwhile, residents protested the station's operation, deeming it outdated and harmful, despite the European Commission extending deadlines for upgrades to meet EU emissions standards.
