Politician allegedly signed off on payments despite knowing they were for sums in excess of what was owed
An Oireachtas member was arrested for allegedly approving fraudulent payments totaling nearly €150,000. The arrest occurred on Friday after the politician presented at a Garda station with a solicitor. The fraud, discovered during an account review, involved excessive payments while the individual was employed at a company before their election. They are the second person arrested in the ongoing investigation, which has yet to reach any conclusions.
