Ontario man facing 29 charges, including 2 ‘rarely laid in Canada,’ police say

Toronto police have charged a man with 29 offences, including two 'rarely laid' charges, in an extensive hate crime investigation.



Amir Arvahi Azar, 32, was arrested on January 11, 2025, and charged with 29 offences, including advocating genocide and willful promotion of hatred, under Canada's hate speech laws. The charges stem from incidents between April 26, 2024, and January 2025 and include public incitement of hatred, arson, mischief to cultural property, uttering threats, criminal harassment, and firearm-related offences.
