Open up, it's the red tape police! Officials enforcing Labour's equal pay law will be able to raid homes of company bosses

Business groups hit out at an amendment to the Employment Rights Bill that would give bureaucrats at the new Fair Work Agency the right to enter homes as well as business premises.

The UK's Labour party is proposing an amendment to the Employment Rights Bill that would grant the new Fair Work Agency (FWA) the power to raid the homes of company bosses suspected of violating equal pay laws and other employment regulations. Business groups are criticizing the proposed law, expressing concerns about overreach and potential misuse, such as using it to enforce gender pay gap reporting. The government states the FWA will target rogue employers while supporting those who comply with employment law, and will also address issues like zero-hour contracts and "fire and rehire" practices.
