The Canadian federal government announced Iqaluit, Inuvik, and Yellowknife as the locations for its first three Arctic operational support hubs, a key part of a $2 billion, 20-year Arctic security strategy aimed at increasing the military's presence in the region. These hubs, which provide communication, transport infrastructure, and secure storage, will also bring improved infrastructure to Iqaluit.
