The Florida Panthers acquired defenseman Seth Jones from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for goaltender Spencer Knight and a conditional first-round pick. The Blackhawks retained 26% of Jones' salary. Jones, a 30-year-old defenseman and the 4th overall pick in 2013, sought a trade due to the Blackhawks' lack of playoff contention, opting to join a winning team. The Panthers, defending Stanley Cup champions, strengthen their roster with Jones, who is under contract until 2030, adding a top defenseman to their lineup.
