Pat King sentenced to 3 months house arrest in ‘Freedom Convoy’ case
Pat King, a key organizer of the 2022 'Freedom Convoy' protest in Ottawa, was sentenced to three months of house arrest in an Ottawa court on February 19, 2025. This comes after nine months spent in custody prior to and during his trial. King was found guilty on five of nine charges, including mischief and disobeying a court order, for his role in the protest that occupied downtown Ottawa for three weeks. The judge, Charles Hackland, ruled that King must remain at his residence during house arrest, except for court appointments, community service, and three hours on Monday afternoons to purchase necessities. King was also banned from returning to Ottawa except for court appearances and ordered to stay away from six other convoy leaders, including Tamara Lich and Chris Barber. King did not comment after the sentencing due to bail conditions related to outstanding perjury and obstruction of justice charges. His lawyer, Calvinho, stated that King plans to serve his house arrest in Alberta. The Crown had sought a 10-year sentence, but the judge ruled against it, stating that King’s sentence should align with those of other convoy participants, which typically ranged from three to six months. King apologized during a pre-sentencing hearing, which the judge described as "emotional" and "sincere."
