Political analyst Iwan Setiawan suggests this decision reinforces the perception that these leaders act as party representatives rather than public servants. This move aligns with PDIP's opposition stance against the government, influenced by the arrest of PDIP's Secretary-General, Hasto Kristiyanto, by the KPK. Despite the directive, some PDIP leaders attended the retreat, while others did not. The retreat also involved various government officials, highlighting ongoing tensions between PDIP and President Jokowi.
