Police arrest apparent leader of cultlike ‘Zizian’ group that has ties to multiple killings including death of Vermont Border Patrol agent

Police have arrested Jack LaSota, the apparent leader of a cult-like group known as the Zizians, in Maryland. LaSota and another group member, Michelle Zajko, face charges including trespassing, obstructing, and possession of a handgun. The Zizians have been linked to multiple killings, including the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent David Maland in Vermont and five other homicides in Vermont, Pennsylvania, and California. The group, described as highly intelligent computer scientists with anarchist beliefs, has become increasingly violent. LaSota, who identifies as a transgender woman, has been elusive, missing court appearances and not responding to media inquiries.
