Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Ghana have called for increased funding for the Students Loan Scheme (SLS) to address challenges in disbursing loans and supporting needy students. At a forum organized by STAR-Ghana Foundation, stakeholders highlighted that the SLS, designed to assist students with tertiary education, faces significant funding gaps, with only half of its 2022/23 commitments fulfilled. They emphasized the need for reforms to ensure funds are available at the start of the academic year, aiming to improve access to tertiary education. Raymond Danso of STAR-Ghana stressed the importance of a unified approach among CSOs to monitor government commitments and ensure accountability, proposing a tracking tool to enhance coordination and actionable outcomes for educational reforms.
