Alice Weidel, the first female candidate for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), is running in the 2025 federal elections. The AfD, currently Germany's second-largest party, advocates anti-immigration, pro-Russia policies, and "re-migration." Recent polls show the CDU leading at 30%, with the AfD at 21%. Despite their strong performance, the AfD is unlikely to govern due to the "cordon sanitaire" policy, though a recent anti-immigration text agreement between the CDU and AfD caused controversy. Weidel, an economist with Goldman Sachs experience, is Swiss-resident and lesbian, positioning the AfD as a liberal-conservative party aligned with Trump's policies.
