Rent arrears in one part of West Lothian surges by almost £100,000 in one year

The steep climb in Armadale and Blackridge has been fuelled by a rise in small amounts of debt, as households struggle to manage their finances amid rising food and fuel costs.



Rent arrears in the Armadale & Blackridge area of West Lothian increased by £96,177 to £551,112 between October-December 2023 and the same period the following year. Across West Lothian, total arrears reached £4,484,906. The number of tenancies in arrears in Armadale & Blackridge increased by 73, with both low and high debt cases rising. Despite this, the rent collection rate in the ward remains "excellent" at 96.6%.
