Researchers at the University of Cambridge have developed an AI tool that can diagnose coeliac disease as effectively as a pathologist, but much faster, potentially reducing diagnosis times from minutes to seconds. The AI model, trained on over 4,000 images, could help speed up diagnosis, reduce pressure on healthcare systems, and benefit patients by improving health outcomes and shortening waiting lists. Further development, investment in digital pathology, and training for pathologists are needed for full implementation in the NHS.
