Revellers in Boston mark St Patrick’s Day with annual parade

The parade, which dates to the turn of the 20th century, marks both St Patrick’s Day and Evacuation Day.

Boston's South Boston St. Patrick's Day parade, a tradition dating back to the early 20th century, drew large crowds celebrating Irish heritage and Evacuation Day. Increased security and an earlier start aimed to prevent the rowdiness seen in previous years. The parade, organized by the South Boston Allied War Veterans Council, included floats, marchers, and historical reenactors. The parade also included LGBTQ+ groups after a previous ban that was lifted nearly a decade ago. Other cities like Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York City also held St. Patrick's Day celebrations.
