Russia warns it will not accept European peacekeeping troops in Ukraine at truce talks with the US

The comments came after Starmer said that he was ready to send troops to Ukraine as a guarantee of security, while urging a 'backstop' security commitment from the US

Russia has rejected the deployment of European peacekeeping troops in Ukraine during truce talks with the US in Saudi Arabia. The discussions focused on ending the war, with Russia emphasizing concerns over European security and opposing NATO's role, particularly Ukraine's potential membership. Russian officials, including Alexander Grushko, stressed that any agreements must address broader European security issues. Meanwhile, European leaders like Sir Keir Starmer and Olaf Scholz expressed frustration over the exclusion of Ukraine from direct talks, fearing a unfavorable deal. The talks, led by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, aim to improve US-Russia relations but have raised concerns in Kyiv and among allies about being sidelined.
