The Spanish-owned banking giant said it was shutting 95 of its 444 branches across Britain from June.
Santander is closing 95 UK branches (over a fifth of its total) in June, putting 750 jobs at risk. The move is due to increased online banking and decreased branch transactions. The bank will have 349 branches post-overhaul, including full-service, work cafes, and counter-free sites, with some branches reducing hours. Santander will recruit 95 "community bankers" and hopes to redeploy affected workers. This follows 111 closures in 2021 and aligns with industry-wide branch closures. 18 new banking hubs will be launched.
