Scotland's education secretary faces fresh demands for national ban on mobile phones in schools

Scotland's Education Secretary, Jenny Gilruth, is under pressure to implement a national ban on mobile phones in schools. Pam Gosal MSP has called for a blanket ban, arguing that the current policy, which delegates the decision to individual schools, is inadequate. Gilruth has defended the approach, expressing confidence in head teachers' ability to make suitable decisions. Bruce Robertson, a head who successfully introduced a phone ban, endorsed a 'mobile phone free' policy. Ash Regan MSP cited Berwickshire High School's success as a case for national policy. Additionally, Labour leader Anas Sarwar has pledged to enforce a phone ban if elected.
