Council tax and income tax will change for Scots this April, with some folk facing hikes.
Scots face five tax changes in 2025, including council tax hikes, income tax adjustments, alcohol duty increases, and a new vape tax. Council tax freezes have ended, allowing councils like Glasgow (5%), Edinburgh (8%), and Fife (10%) to raise rates. Income tax bands have shifted, with higher rates applied to certain earnings, but no increase for those earning the same as in 2024-25. Alcohol duty on non-draught products rose by 2.7% in February, and a £2.20 tax per 10ml of e-cigarette liquid will take effect in October.
