Sécurité aux frontières : Bassirou Diomaye Faye et Assimi Goïta barrent la route aux terroristes
Mali and Senegal have intensified their cooperation to counter rising jihadist attacks, launching joint patrols in the Kayes region on February 20, 2025. This initiative addresses threats from the JNIM group, including the abduction and murder of a Senegalese religious guide. Both nations have deployed specific military units, with Senegal's Zone Militaire N°4 and GARSI, and Mali's forces and internal security services involved. Diplomatic support for the initiative is evident, with Moussa Mara expressing approval. Despite Mali's withdrawal from the Cédéao, there is a commitment to maintain security ties, highlighted by a recent visit from Senegal's Defense Minister to Bamako. Plans include establishing a permanent surveillance mechanism over a 700-kilometer border, inspired by past regional collaborations. The initiative underscores the importance of transnational security efforts, aligning with President Faye's emphasis on strengthening ties between Dakar and Bamako.
