Second person in two days dies trying to cross Channel in small boat

Two people died in two days attempting to cross the English Channel in small boats, bringing the year's death toll to at least 10. One death occurred after a boat picked up more migrants near Gravelines, France, resulting in a cardiac arrest. In the aftermath, NGO's criticized border policies, calling the deaths a result of government inaction, to which a Home Office spokesperson reiterated their commitment to ending the crossings. 289 people crossed the Channel in five boats on Wednesday, with roughly 57 people per boat.
